National City Launches Down Payment Assistance Program

The City of National City’s First Time Home Buyer Program is now available. The program provides up to $70,000 toward the down payment on a home located within the city limits. The funds are intended to help make homeownership attainable for more families in this high cost market, maximizing purchasing power without raising monthly payments.

“Homeownership is the cornerstone of healthy and vibrant communities,” said Mayor Ron Morrison. “We are proud to invest in our neighborhoods and in our residents by expanding home purchase opportunities in our city.”

Funds provided through the program will be made available as a low-interest loan with no payments required for 30 years. Eligible properties include single-family detached homes, condos, and Planned Unit Developments. In addition to this program, prospective home buyers may also qualify for the Mortgage Credit Certificate Program which can be used to deduct up to 20% of the annual interest paid on a mortgage loan.

The National City First Time Home Buyer Program is being administered by Springboard Home Loans, a local non-profit mortgage lender that has been helping individuals and families purchase homes for over 30 years.
